Keeping Jewelry Safe from Theft

Here are some tips to keep your jewelry safe from going missing or theft:

Most burglaries happen in broad daylight.  Always keep doors and windows locked during the day.  Always take the time to place jewelry in a secure place, not in a pocket, on a counter, or in a public area.  Keep jewelry in unlikely places.  Jewelry boxes are an obvious place for thieves to look.  When traveling, keep valuable jewelry at home or store it in the hotel safe, not your room safe.  One of the best ways to keep valuable or extensive jewelry collections secure is to store them in a burglary and fire-resistant safe.

Remove jewelry before swimming.  Fingers constrict in water, making rings more likely to fall off.  Don’t place or store your jewelry near vents, grates, sinks or drains.  Some people “hide” their jewelry in pockets or other places and then forget where they placed them.  If you must do this, on occasion, make sure it is the same “hidden place” every time and two trusted people also know where the hiding place is.  We recommend you store your jewelry in a hidden safe that is fire-resistant or in a safety deposit box at a bank.

Always have your jewelry appraised and insured for your piece of mind.  Julz by Alan Rodriguez has GIA appraisers on staff and can advise you have to have your jewelry insured.
